 - DESCRIPTION - Complete in three volumes, containing first, second, and third series. - Volume one is the fifth edition, volume two is the second edition, and volume three is the first edition. - A collection of essays on various important British families and any changes to their circumstances in terms of fortune and wealth. With titles including: the rise and fall of the Cromwells, the Royal Stuarts, the House of Albany, the fall of Conyers, MacCarthy, landless Lords and Barons, peerage titles, the rise of the Strutts of Belper, and self reliance, amongst other topics. - Each essay provides important information on the history of these important families, with historically documented details of their key family members and their circumstances. - Written by Sir John Bernard Burke, a British genealogist and Ulster King of Arms, who helped publish Burkes Peerage. 
 - CONDITION - In the original red cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the cloth. Splits to the cloth at the joints resulting in spine lifting to volume three. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spines. Front hinge tender to volume two with hinges starting but firm to volume three. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the endpapers with booksellers label to the front pastedown. - Overall Condition: Good - GLOSSARY OF TERMS - Overall Condition - (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) - Fine- Very well preserved copy showing very little wear - Very Good Indeed- Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy - Very Good- Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones - often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy - Good- Meaning not very good.
